Grade 7: Salary in the range £31,604 – £33,518 p.a.
The Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Scientist and Lab Manager to work with the Gene Medicine Research Group to develop gene therapy for a range of diseases. The group is directed by Professors Deborah Gill and Steve Hyde at the University of Oxford, and based at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
We have expertise in the generation of novel gene therapy vectors, their evaluation in pre-clinical models, and meeting the challenge of large-scale manufacturing and transfer to clinical trials. The Gene Medicine Group is also part of the UK Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Gene Therapy Consortium (www.cfgenetherapy.org.uk) which has progressed results from laboratory studies to the first demonstration that gene therapy can produce improvements in the lungs of CF patients. The Consortium’s expertise brings together all aspects of translational science and evaluating new therapeutics in clinical trials.
The successful applicant will have a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field, with research experience in gene therapy research. You will perform independent research as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support multiple gene therapy projects and will hold a Home Office Licence. You will also have responsibilities for managing a small team of researchers to produce purified virus for specific disease applications. Specialist knowledge in aspects of lung physiology or pathology would be desirable.
The position is available for 24 months in the first instance with strong prospects of renewal. The position is full-time.
